Alpha Course

Two evening workshops on discovering the Book of Common Prayer at St. Chad’s Anglican Church

Tuesday, Dec. 6 and 13, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. (light supper included)

IF YOU STRUGGLE with prayer – and who doesn’t? – deepen your prayer life with these two workshops on discovering the Book of Common Prayer. Whether you are a cradle Anglican or new to the Anglican Church, (or even the Christian faith) you’ll learn some simple but effective ways to enrich your daily personal devotions drawn from this classic text. We’ll find:

Extraordinary prayers for everyone
Practical ideas to encourage your prayer life
Means to express joy and sorrow, gratitude and commitment in prayer
Ways to pray throughout the day and across the year

We’ll try to answer such questions as:

Am I cheating God when I pray from a prepared text?
Isn’t the language of the Prayer Book both archaic and sexist?
How can a book from the 16th century speak for me in the 21st century?
How can I pray when I’m in terrible personal trouble or my community is in crisis?
How do I pray for healing in a biblical way?
What should I do when my spiritual life runs dry?
How can I escape self-absorption and really adore God?

Sue Careless has written three user-friendly guides to the Book of Common Prayer called Discovering the Book of Common Prayer: A Hands-On Approach.

Sue is a freelance journalist and photographer whose work has appeared in the Globe and Mail, the National Post and the Toronto Star. The recipient of several church press awards, she is the Senior Editor of the Anglican Planet. She and her husband, Tone, have four adult children and one grandchild and attend Christ the King Anglican Church (ANiC) in Toronto.
